In the January / February 1997 issue of the BPE Newsletter, Richard Byrd recalls a phenomenon he encountered while living in North Dakota. "During the winter months when the temperature was -30° F or lower, if your car broke down someone would stop to help you within five minutes. Why? First, someone in trouble needs help and it feels good to be a helper. Second, you never know when you will be the next one to need help. And that is the case in the employment arena today!"
There's no such thing as a secure position anymore. Everyone with a job is susceptible to losing it at virtually anytime. The BPE exists to provide support and encouragement during the tough transition between jobs. The Dakota Principal -- helping, sharing, and caring -- is the heart and soul of BPE.
